Students from weißensee school of art and design interested in changing their field of study and current exchange students who wish to continue their studies here with us as regular students, just send an email to Leoni Adams or Susan Lipp, in oder to get activated the already exisiting useraccount in our campusmanagement system.
Admission requirements and application process for transfer students
If you have completed at least 2 semesters (recommended are at least 4 semesters) at other art universities in a comparable field you can apply as a transfer student at the Weißensee Art Academy Berlin.
On the basis of your artistic works (portfolio), your previous studies and the interview, the examination board decides whether you will be admitted, as well as in which semester you will be placed.

Please do not send any additional documents by post. If you pass this interview successfully we request your full original application documents for admission at the Berlin Weissensee Art Academy.
On the basis of your portfolio and your application the examination board decides whether you will be invited for the admission interview or not. You will receive the letter of invitation to the admission interview approximately 3-4 weeks after the deadline. The interviews will be held at the end of June, for international applicants Skype-Interwiews are also possible.

Courses of the study, study trips, internships, employment in the fields of design/ arts, exhibitions etc.
A certificate or a proof (transcript of records) of having completed at least two semesters in your desired department or an equivalent study program or previous studies or diplomas and a confirmation of enrollment if you are matriculated.
Only applicants from the People's Republic of China, Vietnam and Mongolia must include the original certificate confirming that the papers have been pre-checked by the Academic Evaluation Centre (APS).
German language certificate
At the time of application international applicants have to upload a language certificate qualification level or a conformation of the current language course min. B2 for the Design study programs and B1 for the Fine Art departments. Please upload the recent proof you have.
Please mind, that the relevant language certificate must be submitted : for example TestDaF 4, telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule, DSH 2, the language proof of from the UDK or Goethe Institition (qualification level C1) for Design departments; and Testdaf 3, DSH 1, telc B2, the certificates from the UDK or Goethe Institition (qualification level B2) for the Fine Arts study programs.
Information on admission and matriculation for international applicants
In application proceedings, there are no differences between Germans, EU-Citizens or other international applicants, provided international applicants can submit a proof of German language proficiency with the application form: minimum of the qualification level B1 for the Fine Arts programs and B2 for Design departments.
The language of instruction is German in all our courses. As the admission test (interview) will be also carried out in German it is absolutely necessary to be provided with a sufficient knowledge of German language. Needless to say that most professors speak English very well, so in case of need, you may be able to explain your ideas, aims and motivation also in English.
After a positive decision, you must be presented a language certificate for the admission in February: for example TestDaF 4, telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule, DSH 2, the language proof of the Goethe Institution or of the UDK (qualification level C1) for Design departments; and Testdaf 3, DSH 1, telc B2, the certificates of the UDK or Goethe Institution (qualification level B2) for the Fine Arts study programs.
In exceptional cases, a proof of the exam registration or a certificate of the B2 / C1 - course is also sufficient for the time being. Please note: The relevant language certificate must be submitted before your studies begin. If you are think you can´t prove the required certificate, you may apply for delay.
Please note: all necessary certificates and documents must be upload in form of an officially authenticated translation in German or English. Applicants from the People's Republic of China, Vietnam and Mongolia must include the original certificate confirming that the papers have been pre-checked by the Academic Evaluation Centre (APS).
All design departments (Visual Communication, Product-, Fashion and Textil/Surface Design) are offered as a 4-years Bachelor and a 1-year Master modularised program. The regular duration of study is 8 semesters, 240 ECTS-credits (Bachelor) and 2 semesters, 60 ECTS-credits (Master of Arts).
The Fine Arts Diploma programmes (Painting, Sculpture and Stage/Costumedesign) comprise a standard period of study of ten semesters that are completed with a final "Diplom" exam (300 ECTS-credits) and it is equivalent to a Master Degree.
The weißensee academy of art charges a contribution of about 300€ per Semester. This includes the ticket for public transport.
