All applicants regardless the nationality are equate with in the application process, provided international applicants can submit a proof of German language proficiency with the online application:
minimum of the qualification level A2 for all undergrade programs and min. B1 for Master programs and transfer students in all departments. Please upload the recent proof you have.
The language of instruction is German in all our courses. As German is even the main language during the aptitude/admission test it is absolutely necessary to be provided with a sufficient knowledge of German language. Needless to say that most professors speak English very well, so in case of need, you may be able to explain your ideas, aims and motivation also in English.
After a positive decision, it must be presented a language certificate for the admission, by the beginning of the studies at the latest.
>For all BA- and MA-design programs as well as Stage- and Costume Design:
for example TestDaF 4, telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule, DSH 2 or Goethe-Institut (qualification level C1).
>For the Fine Arts study programs Painting and Sculpture plus MA-Spatial Design:
for example Testdaf 3, telc B2, DSH 1 or Goethe Institition (qualification level B2).
In exceptional cases, a proof of the exam registration or a certificate of the B2/C1 - course is also sufficient for the time being. The relevant language certificate must be submitted before the studies begin.
Study applicants do not have to provide proof, if they:
-are a german native speaker
-have passed successfully 10 years at a German school or has the Abitur in Germany
-have already obtained at a German school the entitlement to study at a university or college
-have passed the assessment test at a German preparatory course for foreign students
-or are transferring to weißensee as part of a university transfer from another German university or college
Foreign higher education entrance qualifications (allgemeine Hochschulreife) as well as the certificate of Bachelor or Diploma must be recognised as equivalent to the German general or subject-specific higher education entrance qualification. An exemption from this is possible if you have a "special artistic aptitude" and its is declared in the notification for the result of the aptitude test. Applicants for the Fine Art programs can be accepted without a higher education entrance qualification (allgemeine Hochschulreife), if they provide a certification from a college preparatory secondary school. The equivalence of your secondary school certificates as well as your university degrees will be carreid out directly here at weißensee school of art and design.
Applicants from the People's Republic of China, Vietnam and Mongolia must include the original certificate confirming that the papers have been pre-checked by the Academic Evaluation Centre (APS).
