APPLICATION INFORMATION

Dear prospective students,

We are pleased that you are interested in one of our Master's degree programmes. The application procress is from March 1 to April 30. Applications are only possible for the winter semester.

We recommend that you inform yourself about the current >>admission regulation (in German only) before applying for the Master's programme at the Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin.

Important steps in the Application Process


1. Registration on the online application portal

  • APPLICATION PORTAL:
    https://cms.kh-berlin.de/login

  • First-time applicant? Then click on “Register,” create a user account, and follow the instructions. Then enter the activation code that will be sent to you by email. (Do not close the window so that the registration is not canceled.)

  • Already registered? Then log in with your existing credentials. Your username is your email address. 

IMPRORTANT NOTES

  • Use a larger screen, as the Application Portal is unfortunately not yet responsive.

  • Please note: Registration does not constitute an application. You must submit your application separately.


2. Create application

  • Open the “Applications” tab in the online application portal and click on “Create” to create your application for the desired degree program.

NOTES

  • Applications can only be submitted within the application period. Start early to clarify any questions.

  • Important: Do not click on ‘Exchange programme’. This is only relevant for Erasmus semesters.


3. View important information about the required application documents

  • After submitting your application, you will receive all the information about the required documents by email and in the portal.


4. Add missing data

  • In the “Applications” tab, click “Edit” to add all the necessary data and supporting documents.

  • Save your changes.

NOTES

  • You can see incomplete information in the “Overview” tab.

  • If you have studied at several universities or academys, add further educational qualifications in the ‘Academic educations’ tab by clicking the ‘Create’ button.


FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS -Language proficiency information / APS certificate

  • At the time of application, international applicants must submit at least one language certificate at level A2. Please upload your most recent language certificate as a PDF file. Confirmation of the language course you are currently attending is also sufficient. >MORE INFO

  • Applicants from the People's Republic of China, Vietnam and India must include the original certificate confirming that the papers have been pre-checked by the Academic Evaluation Centre (APS). Please contact the respective APS office: -> China  -> Vietnam  -> India


5. Upload application documents

  • Upload all required documents in the “Additional application data” tab by clicking on “Edit” and then on the upload icon.


6. Submit application

  • Submit your complete application within the application period.

2 Proof of previous academic achievements or degrees (transcript of records).

3 Proof of a first university degree with professional qualification in a subject comparable to the chosen master's degree program
with at least 240 credit points or a current study documentation, if you are still in the Bachelor process.

3.1 Applicants with less than 240 CP have the possibility to prove the required competence level of 240 CP. Add here all additional qualifications in the study-relevant field to your application, such as work experience, internships, freelance activities, projects as well as trainings acquired after the first university degree.

3.2 If you cannot provide evidence of additional qualifications, you will undergo a separate examination.

4 A reasoned and detailed master's proposal.

5  Curriculum vitae – information on previous studies, professional activities, internships, study trips, exhibitions, work experience in a field relevant to your studies, etc.

6. Language proficiency - International applicants must upload a PDF language certificate at level B1/B2 when submitting their application. For final admission, an official C1 certificate is required (e.g., TestDaF 4, DSH‑2, telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule, DSD II, or Goethe‑Zertifikat C1).

7. APS certificate - Applicants from India, Vietnam, and the People’s Republic of China must submit an APS certificate. Please contact the APS office of the German Embassy well in advance.

Important informations & further procedure:

After reviewing the uploaded documents, those applicants whose submitted documents/portfolio show artistic aptitude for the desired field of study will receive an invitation to the entrance examination/interview (approx. 4-5 weeks after the application deadline).

The admission interviews take place on site at the end of June/beginning of July. Online interviews may also be possible for international applicants.

Admission is decided by the department's admissions committee on the basis of artistic aptitude (portfolio), the Master's proposal, the presentation interview and previous academic and examination achievements.

Your documents in paper form (certified copies) will only be requested after you have passed the admission test.


Online portfolio with your own design works

  • Submit your online portfolio to us in PDF format.

  • PDF max. 20 MB.

  • Please limit the number of pages to 30.

  • Show us the work you consider most important in your studies so far, including your thesis. We are very interested in understanding your working methods, so please let us also participate in the working process.

  • The PDF allowed to include video links if it serves to illustrate the processes or the result.

Master Proposal

  • A reasoned and detailed description of your master's proposal. Please describe your thematic orientation and your expectations for a master's degree in weißensee on max. 2 pages. Explain to us which design issues you would like to work on, or if you can already name a very concrete project, describe it to us.

  • The field of product design offers three specific design perspectives:
    Mobility, Interaction, and Experimentation. If you already know which of the perspectives is particularly relevant to you, please let us know.

  • Please also state which competencies you would still like to acquire in the master's program, or what we can contribute to the success of your project.

  • Please prepare an abstract of max. 500 characters and put it in front of your detailed project description.


Fees

Tuition fees are not charged. There is a contribution of about 360€ per Semester, administration fee, social contribution, ASTA and the ticket for local public transport in Germany (Germany semester ticket).
