"Nichts ist unmöglich" (Nothing is impossible) - the fading inscription on the central wall of the Adlerhalle refers to its former use as a motor workshop. Today, it is also home to the first graduate exhibition of the weissensee kunsthochschule berlin as part of the StadtWERKSTATT programme. Originally a military barracks in the 19th century, the Dragonerareal is an exemplary illustration of the capital's history: Military industry, forced labour, controversial real estate deals, but also neighbourly commitment to public space and housing are all part of the site's eventful history.

This unwaveringly optimistic advertising slogan could easily come across as cynical to the 39 masters and diploma students in painting and sculpture, who are at the start of their artistic careers in no less turbulent times. However, there is a spark of truth and hope in the optimism adopted by a Japanese car manufacturer: the graduates are united by their decision to pursue art studies in the face of an uncertain future, across different forms of expression, themes and media. In painting, drawing, photography, video, sculpture, textiles and installations, they express their view of our present. And if a barracks can become an art gallery, then perhaps anything is truly possible.
