The agony and art of loneliness
The IPU and its affiliated institute Junktim e.V.have organized a conference with international speakers on lonelieness in cooperation with the Kunsthochschule Weißensee (School of Art). This issue is relevant, especially in Corona time, and the continuing crisis is concerning for many people. On 18 November, the conference will take place at the IPU and on 19 November at the Weißensee School of Art. Participation is free of charge; however, a donation is requested. Events will take place in either German or English. The conference is organized by Prof. Dr. Dr. Michael B. Buchholz and Dr. Aleksandar Dimitrijevic from IPU and Prof. Dr. Karin Dannecker and Prof. Dr. Jörg Petruschat from Kunsthochschule Weißensee.
Even without Corona, the tension of creative "solitude" and yearning loneliness – even abandonment – drew us into persistent demands for psychic work, which is exacerbated as long as one can maintain only little social contact in the epidemic. For many people, the idea of loneliness is highly relevant; they feel loneliness as a downright threat. On the other hand, people need solitude as an experience of creative activity in science, art, everyday life and spirituality. This conference aims to explore this tension, also in order to arrive at research questions that can be worked on.
