Lecture series “seɘ - seeing other(s)” with Prof. Dr. Mona Jas

As part of the lecture series “seɘ - ander(e)s sehen”, Prof. Dr. Mona Jas, Honorary Professor of Theory and History, will speak on the topic " How does participation smell? Visionary concepts of co-design and co-determination in the field of art and their significance for artists and designers".

In her lecture, Mona Jas will use various exhibitions as examples to illustrate the importance of inclusive curatorial approaches for artists and designers. The exhibition “Century of Childhood: Growing by Design” (Juliet Kinchin, Aidan O'Connor, 2013 Museum of Modern Art New York), focused on the intensive engagement of the art and architecture field with young people over the past century. More than ten years on, the question is to what extent these impulses have been carried forward and what relevance they have for new curatorial approaches.

Outside the university, Mona Jas is artistic director of the KinderKunstLabor for contemporary art in St. Pölten, Lower Austria. The newly built institution presents contemporary art with and for young people, teenagers and adults. She has carried out various research projects at the interface of art education and cultural education and is the author of many publications in this field. Mona Jas is also a member of various selection committees and juries and gives numerous lectures in Germany and abroad. Currently, for example, she is a member of the jury for the allocation of funds for children's and youth academies of the OEAD Vienna and the Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion Berlin pilot phase of a “Youth Culture Initiative”; expert in appointment procedures for professorships at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and the University of Music and Performing Arts Linz, member of the faculty of documenta 14 in Kassel and Athens and the Denkwerkstatt Kulturelle Bildung of the Berlin Senate.
