so whatcha gonna do now
In my project the starting point were rap songs about money. Inspired by the melancholy and absurdity of life often touched upon in the lyrics i decided to build a virtual space that will reflect those feelings. I am playing with the myth of Sisyphos, Albert Camus take on absurdity and Caspar David Friedrichs "Wanderer above the sea of fog". I wanted to play with contrasts and I juxtapositioned human with digital. On the human side we have emotional song lyrics talking about problems of human existence read by me. On the digital side we have a computer based virtual reality, cold and distanced, filled with unrealistic „icy” water. The medium of Virtual Reality was chosen inspired by Albert Camus definition of absurdity. According to him , the absurd isn’t in the World or in the Man itself, it’s in the confrontation of those two. The world in the context of relation to the humanity is irrational and the mans biggest desire is to understand, to rationalize, to have clarity. The absurd juxtaposition of those two is where the nostalgia for something we will never achieve comes. Nostalgia for something we will never achieve, for something that we never had to begin with, for something that we are constantly looking for.
