TEXTILE BUILDING SKIN - efnMOBILE Antwerp

„TEXTILE BUILDING SKIN: new functionality due to smart textiles“
TOPIC/WORKSHOP:
Smart textiles in the building envelope.
Textile structures and façades have a long tradition in architecture due to their lightweight properties, geometrical flexibility and resource efficiency.
With new developments by combination of different materials within textiles various requirements in the façade can be addressed more decentralized and individually to user needs and/or environmental impact.
The efnMOBIL workshop addresses this potential and aims to develop new concepts for textile building skins or textile façade components. Therefore teaching, research and practice will be brought together at the workshop to trigger new concepts to be investigated by architecture/façade design students.
The students shall investigate different main functions to be fulfilled by their façade designs:
With the help of textile materials and special geometries the students shall develop solutions for the case study building at the given location to fulfil one of the below mentioned functions per team.
Functions: Sun-shading – Noise protection – Air cleaning – Media facade
