Transfer Students - Application Periods

Dear prospective students,
Unfortunately, it is not possible to open the university transfer procedure for all degree programmes in the winter semester. We will inform you about the possibilities in advance.

The online application portal for transfers is opened twice a year: For the winter semester from 1 to 31 May and for the summer semester from 1 December to 6 January.

Admission requirements and application process for transfer students

Students may continue their studies at the weißensee academy of art berlin if they have studied or already completed at least two semesters (at least two academic years are recommended) at another artistic or scientific university, college or university of applied sciences in the same subject area. The admission committee of the faculty decides on admission and placement in the relevant semester on the basis of artistic aptitude (portfolio), the presentation interview and previous study and examination achievements.

Courses of the study, study trips, internships, employment in the fields of design/ arts, exhibitions etc.

Study evidence
A certificate or a proof (transcript of records) of having completed at least two semesters in your desired department or an equivalent study program or previous studies or diplomas and a confirmation of enrollment if you are matriculated.

For international applicants 
Proof of sufficient German language skills: e.g. Testdaf 3, DSH 1, telc B2 Hochschule, DSD I or B2 examination certificate from the Goethe-Institut, at the latest by the start of the programme. Only for the Stage and Costume Design degree programme: e.g. Testdaf 4, DSH 2, telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule, DSD II or the C1 examination certificate from the UDK or the Goethe-Institut.

Applicants from India, Vietnam and the People's Republic of China: Certificate from the Akademische Prüfstelle(APS). Please contact the Academic Evaluation Centre (APS) of the German Embassy in good time before applying.

Please note:
All required certificates and documents can be uploaded in the original or in the form of an officially certified translation in German or English. We only require the notarised documents in paper form for admission in July.

Important notes and further procedure:

After reviewing the uploaded documents, those applicants whose submitted documents/portfolio indicate artistic aptitude for the desired degree programme will receive an invitation to the entrance examination/interview (approx. 4-5 weeks after the application deadline).

Admission interviews are held on site at the end of June/beginning of July. Online interviews may also be possible for international applicants. 

The decision on admission and semester placement is made by the department's admissions committee on the basis of artistic aptitude (portfolio), the reasons for transfer and the academic and examination achievements to date.

Your documents in paper form (certified copies) will only be requested after you have passed the admission procedure.

Instruction guide for online-application

 

Study Programs

All design departments (Visual Communication, Product-, Fashion and Textil & Material Design) are offered as a 4-years Bachelor and a 1-year Master modularised program. The regular duration of study is 8 semesters, 240 ECTS-credits (Bachelor) and 4 semesters, 120 ECTS-credits (Master of Arts).
The Fine Arts Diploma programmes (Painting, Sculpture and Stage/Costumedesign) comprise a standard period of study of ten semesters that are completed with a final "Diplom" exam (300 ECTS-credits) and it is equivalent to a Master Degree.
