Building upon the foundational principles of 4D printing, this advanced course delves deeper into the intricacies of creating dynamic, shape-changing structures using additive manufacturing techniques. Textiles, with their innate capacity to store energy, form the cornerstone of our exploration into 4D printing principles. By leveraging this unique attribute, we unlock the potential to fabricate structures capable of undergoing transformative changes over time in response to external stimuli.
Throughout the course, our focus lies in advancing additive manufacturing methods, particularly through 3D printing, to manipulate textiles into 4D structures. The integration of a collaborative robotic arm into our approach enables students to gain practical experience in operating this technology.
Basic Material will initially be provided. Students will be asked to use their own material for the completion of this project.
Requirements:
- Prior experience in 3D printing
- Basic knowledge of Rhino3D (Grasshopper recommended)
- Familiarity with 4D printing concepts (preferred, but not mandatory)

In this project we examine the notion of making architectural objects at body scale. As designers, we’re situated in a world which urgently needs to become more conscious of material consumption. As climate change forges ahead, research into new methods of production and new philosophies of making are slowly developing. Our impulse to re-think conventions brings us to explore how merging spatial technologies with local biomaterials can create a vehicle for producing embodied and sustainable architectural objects with basketry techniques.
Elements of architecture will come into focus, surfaces we interact with on a daily basis, we will question our perception of architectural objects and how we relate with them. For centuries artists and designers have been used custom tools to produce unique and intricate designs that would be impossible to do by hand. These machines can range from simple mechanisms that assist in drawing straight lines or circles to more complex devices that are capable of producing intricate patterns and shapes.
The use of custom tools in design and production has had a profound impact for achieving unique and innovative designs, as well as for creating functional and affordable products.
The process of generate shapes from the traces of the machine motion in space and time, has inbuilt properties that resides in both the analogue and digital world. Drawing and fabrication are movements.
In this course students will develop their own digital “Drawing Machine”, exploring new spatial shapes in their relation to time.

Das Forschungskolloquium Master II unterstützt die zweite Phase der Masterprojekte, insbesondere in Bezug auf Struktur und Ausformulierung der forschenden Anteile.
Dazu gehört, das Masterprojekt in kulturelle und gesellschaftspolitische Kontexte sowie in bestehende Forschungszusammenhänge in Design und in den Wissenschaften einzubetten. Wir besprechen im Verlauf des Semesters auch die Gliederung der Masterarbeit und das Ausarbeiten der Entwurfsdokumentation.

MA-Forschungs-Kolloquium I
Mein Lehrangebot ist als Unterstützung für das Erkunden und den Research in der ersten Phase der Masterarbeiten angelegt. Im Kolloquium geht es um das konzeptionelle Aufschließen der Masterthemen, das Öffnen von Forschungshorizonten, das Einordnen der Themen in gesellschaftspolitische und kulturelle Kontexte, ihre theoretische Reflexion und Durchdringung.
In zwei Veranstaltungen in der Kunsthochschule (einer Auftaktveranstaltung und einer Veranstaltung zur Präsentation der Themen nach etwa vier Wochen) findet der fach- und themenübergreifende Austausch mit Master-Studierenden auch aus anderen Fachgebieten statt. Die Treffen dienen der gegenseitige Anregung und Ermutigung zu weitreichenden Fragen und Experimenten, dem Teilen von Wissen und Erfahrungen, und geben allen die Chance, das eigene Vorhaben auch den anderen erklären und argumentieren zu können. Die übrigen Wochen des Kolloquiums sind Einzelkonsultationen nach individueller Vereinbarung vorbehalten.
Am Ende des Semesters steht eine Präsentation, in der die Ergebnisse dieser erstens Forschungsphase zusammengefasst und den Betreuerinnen und Betreuern aus den jeweiligen Fachgebieten präsentiert werden - im …

In the first phase of your Master (in Product Design, Visual Communication, art, Fashion or Textile Design), I will help you define your Master’s thesis topic and research questions, widening your perspectives and theoretical knowledge from different points of view.
You will be encouraged to explore your topic in an interdisciplinary way, to choose references, narratives and concepts from various fields of knowledge such as philosophy, literature, anthropology, ethology, art and design history, cultural studies, mythology, etc. You will learn to represent and organise your thoughts and ideas, to connect them to existing theories and to develop your own way to write, to find your own formats. You will also be encouraged to share your questions, findings and methods with other Master’s students from other disciplines, and this exchange of good practices will lead you to present and develop your argumentation in a broader cultural context.

STOFFWECHSEL - Städtisches Grün und lokale Stoffwechselsysteme Berlins und seines Umlands
Das greenlab 13.0 Entwurfsprojekt STOFFWECHSEL im Sommersemester 2024 wird sich mit dem dynamischen Zusammenspiel zwischen Natur und Kultur, urbanen Grünflächen und den vernetzten Ressourcen in unseren Städten und deren Umgebung beschäftigen. Wir werden uns auf eine Reise begeben, um unsere Städte als lebendige, grüne und vernetzte Räume neu zu gestalten, die sowohl den Menschen als auch dem Planeten nützen, wobei wir uns insbesondere mit Berlin als Ausgangspunkt beschäftigen werden.
In einer Zeit, in der die Städte mit beispiellosen Herausforderungen im Zusammenhang mit dem Klimawandel, dem Verlust der biologischen Vielfalt und der Ressourcenbewirtschaftung konfrontiert sind, werden urbane Grünräume immer wichtiger.
