Wir laden zur dritten feministischen Mittagspause, diesmal mit einem kurzen Input von Anisha Gupta Müller zum Thema „Safer Spaces“ mit dem Fokus auf den Hochschulkontext.
Als Erweiterung ihrer Masterarbeit (Confronting Academia: Movement, Care and the Politics of “Safer Spaces”) wird Anisha einige ihrer Gedanken über den Gebrauch und Missbrauch von „Safer Space“-Konzepten teilen. Ihre Recherche konzentrierte sich auf Definitionen von „Safer Space“, die kritisch gegenüber Machtdynamiken sind, und wie sie in der Praxis von Künstler*innen und Akademiker*innen of Color angewandt wurden. Dabei werden einige praktische Aspekte der eigenen Erfahrungen mit der Veranstaltung von „Safer Spaces“ vorgestellt und erläutert wie sie die Funktionsweisen weißer Kunst- und Bildungseinrichtungen in Deutschland in Frage stellen.
Anisha Gupta Müller ist Kunstvermittlerin und spezialisiert sich auf feministische Körperpraktiken und Formen der Antidiskriminierungspraxis an Kunsthochschulen. Sie leitet Empowerment-Workshops, leitet Kurse und hält Vorträge an Institutionen wie der Staatliche Akademie der Bildende Künste Stuttgart, der Kunsthalle Wien, den Sophiensaelen und dem Haus der Kulturen der Welt Berlin. An der weißensee kunsthochschule berlin bietet sie seit einigen Semestern interdisziplinäre Seminare an zu Themen wie Politik der Repräsentation, die kunsthistorische Aufteilung von Kunst/Künstler*in oder zu den Grenzen und Möglichkeiten der „transformativen Kunst“.

We invite you to the third feminist lunch break, this time with a brief input from Anisha Gupta Müller on the theme “The Politics and Problems of Safer Spaces (with focus on academia)”
As an extension of her master’s thesis (Confronting Academia: Movement, Care and the Politics of “Safer Spaces”), Anisha will share some of her thoughts on the use and misuse of “Safer Space” concepts. Her research has focussed on definitions of “Safer Space” that are critical of power dynamics, and how it has been applied in practice by artists and academics of Color. Some practical aspects of her experience of hosting “Safer Spaces” will be shared, and discussed how it contests the way white arts and education institutions function in Germany.
Anisha Gupta Müller is an art educator specializing in feminist body practices and forms of anti-discrimination practice in art schools. She hosts empowerment workshops, conducts courses, and lectures at institutions such as the Staatliche Akademie der Bildende Künste Stuttgart, Kunsthalle Wien, Sophiensaele, and Haus der Kulturen der Welt Berlin. At weißensee kunsthochschule berlin, she has been offering interdisciplinary seminars for several semesters on topics such as the politics of representation, the art-historical division of art/artist, or the limits and possibilities of “transformative art”.
