Scaling Nature (1): Wrinkles
Scaling Nature/MoA Design Studio is a series of interdisciplinary, experimental and innovative teaching, conducted by Prof. Christiane Sauer at weißensee school of art and design berlin in the Department of Textile and Surface Design, in close collaboration with researchers from the Cluster of Excellence „Matters of Activity. Image. Space. Material“ (MoA). The Cluster aims to create a basis for a new culture of materials. Biology and technology, mind and material, nature and culture intertwine in a new way.
Central concerns are the interdisciplinary research and development of sustainable practices and structures in areas such as textiles, materials and digital filters, surgical cutting techniques, architecture and soft robotics. The Cluster focuses on a new role of design, which is emerging in the context of growing diversity and the continuous development of materials and forms of visualization in all disciplines.
Scaling Nature (1): Wrinkles constitutes the first part in a series of interdisciplinary investigations and took place in the Summer Semester 2019.
