Plant Choreography

Plants organize themselves without a central nervous system and are physically bound to the area they inhabit. They must be able to actively develop and change their shape to adapt to their environment. Some of these processes are regulated by self-organization. To study those processes, I phenotypically scanned bean growth using photogrammetric methods and microscopically recorded the inner structures of a seedling with a micro-CT scanner. In order to make the structural change tangible and to analyze it, I animated the collected data. The experimentation with visualisation and interaction techniques in VR and .html provides new perspectives on systems of natural self-organization.
