Izi-Seat

The IziSeat is a bus seat for children with cerebral palsy (CP). besides its special suitability for children with CP, the IziSeat is of universal use. “CP is the most common childhood physical disability”. It is a scaring of the brain tissue, which is irreparable and diagnosed shortly after birth. Individuals who are impaired by CP need a constant and correct body support, as their movement and body control is impaired.

The seats were developed in Kapetown, South Africa. Most of the Day-Care Centers I visited to analyse the transport situation were situated in townships.

My research is based on the transpotation problems of disabled children in South Africa, who need to be taken to school and back. These Kids spend up to 3 hours in a bus daily.
Children with CP need constant postural support.
The transport sector in these areas is usually neither equipped with seatbelts, nor do the seats provide body support. Provisional belts are used or the Kids lie on the seats and in the trunk. This makes their transportation unsafe and unhealthy for many reasons.

The IziSeat provides postural support and makes traveling safer for any person, but is designed according to the needs of children with CP.
4 Sizes, each with a back- and a seatingpart, can be combined individually. Headsupport and belts are adjustable.
The seat is light and can be installed to and removed from the vehicle easily.
Schools and daycare Centres get provided with the seats through development funds.
