STAYING IN TOUCH – How do we feel in a dematerialized World?
Berührung ist unser erster Kontakt zur Welt. Sie ist von entscheidender Bedeutung für unsere emotionale und neurobiologische Entwicklung. Sie beeinflusst unser körperliches und seelisches Wohlbefinden und kann im negativen Sinne, im Fall einer Grenzüberschreitung, Schmerz und Verletzung auslösen.
Doch wie fühlen und berühren wir in der dematerialisierten digitalen Kultur? Welche Bedeutung hat diese Entwicklung für unseren Körper, unser Empfinden und unseren Instinkt? Welchen Einfluss haben Social Distancing oder soziale Medien, die eine scheinbare Nähe zu anderen suggerieren? Welche Auswirkungen haben digitale Objekte auf unseren Tastsinn? Welchen Einfluss haben Algorithmen auf unsere instinktiven Entscheidungen und unser Bauchgefühl?
In dem Kurs "Staying in Touch" untersuchen wir die Prozesse der Berührung und des Fühlens, Gesten des Greifens und des Machens.

Unter Berücksichtigung von Methoden des Handgemachten erforschen wir in diesem Zusammenhang die haptische, taktile und sinnliche Qualität von Textilien, ihre Bedeutung und ihr Potenzial, positiven Einfluss auf diese gesellschaftliche Entwicklung zu nehmen.
Wie können Textilien dazu beitragen, dass wir mit unseren Körpern, Gefühlen und unserer sozialen und materiellen Umwelt auf positive Weise "in touch" bleiben? Berührungen können Gefühle besser kommunizieren. Können Textilien – ein Material, mit dem wir kontinuierlich in Berührung sind – positive Gefühle vermitteln oder auslösen?
In Auseinandersetzung mit der oben genannten Thematik entwickeln die Studierenden haptisch interessante Textilien und Materialien, die unsere Gefühle und unseren Tastsinn stimulieren und in frei wählbarer Form Anwendung finden.

STAYING IN TOUCH - How do we feel in a dematerialized World?
Touch is our first contact with the world. It is of essential importance for our emotional and neurobiological development. It influences our physical and emotional well-being and, in a negative sense, can trigger pain and injury in the event of a boundary transgression.
But how do we feel and touch in the dematerialised digital culture? What significance does this development have for our bodies, our sensibilities and our instincts? What is the influence of social distancing or social media that suggest an apparent closeness to others? What impact do digital objects have on our sense of touch? What influence do algorithms have on our instinctive decisions and gut feeling?
In the course "Staying in Touch" we explore the processes of touching and feeling, gestures of reaching and making.
"(...) this suggests how much the process of our thinking is shaped by our hands through the gesture of making and by the pressure that hands exert on objects (...)" - Vilém Flusser.
Taking into account handmade methods, we explore in this context the haptic, tactile and sensual quality of textiles, their meaning and their potential to have a positive influence on this social development.
How can textiles help us to stay "in touch" with our bodies, feelings and our social and material environment in a positive way? Touch can communicate feelings better. Can textiles - a material we are continuously in touch with - communicate or trigger positive feelings? In addressing the above topic, the students develop haptically interesting textiles and materials that stimulate our feelings and sense of touch and are applied in a freely selectable form.

In appreciation of rituals, the project engages individuals to join together within a community to create a series of handcrafted tablecloths. In today’s busy and digitally-focused lifestyles, these gatherings provide an opportunity to collectively slow down and invest time in collaborative creation. The resulting textiles showcase playful, vibrant colours and patterns, highlighting the significance of staying connected with one another through shared activities and with oneself through tactile experiences. As the project progresses, these textile pieces are carefully folded into booklets, preserving the collaborative essence, and archived for future reflection in a customised slipcase.

The term „memorabilia“ encompasses a wide variety of objects that people keep because of their sentimental value.
The project involves converting my childhood textile memories into wearable garments, aiming to evoke the sensation of reliving childhood and recalling long-forgotten emotions.
Contrary to my memories, in which most of the fabrics were hand-woven by my grandmother, the fabrics I make are knitted. It is not just a matter of reproducing the fabrics, but of reinterpreting and expanding them with my skills and techniques.

The idea of the project is to question constructed rules of behavior and to use the tablecloth again as
a “textile tool” that should encourage us to eat intuitively and with all our senses.
The aim is to experience eating more immediately, closer, more directly and more intuitively, without being restricted by table rules.
The table linen should not be reduced to the purpose of decoration, but should combine several functional properties.
Observations of children’s intuitive eating behavior form the basis of this project.

My grandma suffers from dementia, which makes it impossible for her to do what she has usually done and loved - taking care of the family.
Forgetting what you have done all your life is a terrible idea, but it can lead to completely new realisations.
Dementia is a losing game is an attempt to show the circumstances caused by dementia as valuable events. The project emphasises the sentimental value of these forgotten practices and relics and aims to maintain the connection to my grandma.

In Western domestic settings, carpets are often viewed merely as decorative items, despite their significant role in shaping our living spaces. Conversely, in Middle Eastern cultures, they carry profound symbolic meanings, fostering community and comfort.
Inspired by this cultural significance, a transformable textile has been created to help inhabitants reconnect with the tactile and intimate qualities of the carpet, allowing it to be reshaped into various three-dimensional objects. The design, influenced by Beni Ourain Berber rugs, uses sculptural „yarns“ made from fabric scraps and wool, crafted and woven together through a meditative and intuitive process.

The concept of me.tall explores unique jewelry pieces that only fit the original owner.
Working with body imprints, these personal pieces keep the shape of the person and with that the memory of a current physical state.
After aging and the related physical change, the jewelry can be passed on to another person or heir as part of the tradition to keep them as a memory of the person
Pewter allows the jewelry to be quite flexible at the beginning of working with the body imprints and with this a matching cover can be created.
