The Waiting Room is a non-linear story and game about inventing your own realities, and not just consuming them. In The Waiting Room you play as a character who got lost in a desperate search for entertainment, and uncover their story through a multiple-choice text interface.

 

The Waiting Room is based on and inspired by the phenomenon reality shifting, which is the process of transcending one's consciousness to a different reality. The game starts with the player having shifted to a "waiting room", a trope reality shifters often use as an intermediate space to travel from current to desired realities. The player moves through rooms and interacts with non-player characters (NPCs) through a text-based interface, uncovering popular reality shifting methods, spaces, and more about how the protagonist ended up there.
