According to the "Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations" 30 % of the food produced worldwide goes to waste - in the face of millions of people starving this is an absurd number. And it gets more absurd when considering the dwindling supply of natural resources, the shortness of climate regulating woods, the excessive strain that land and natural water bodies are submitted to by monoculture and pesticide/insecticide overuse.
In Germany private households have to account for 61 % of all food losses, due to cheap food prices and the lack of knowledge and thus appreciation for the resources, labor, transport and energy that go into each product.
The board game presented here is an attempt at mending the advanced alienation between people in industrialized countries and their food. Complicated cause-effect-relationships are broken down to achieve simplified but easily comprehensible game mechanisms, thus creating a highly accessible means that allows anybody to literally grasp how much it takes to produce our everyday food.
