ARIAL

The foundation of this first fashion design attempt is the super sober sans-serif letter type ARIAL, which is also name-giving for the mini-collection. With pinpoint accuracy, Marina holds on to the strict minimalism of the ARIAL font and creates all the prints out of the word MINIMAL. Repetition and layering of the same word leads to impressively simple and filigrane stripe-like patterns. Putting the focus on the experimental development of surfaces, special materials were used to screen print the MINIMAL pattern. Those materials strongly contrast the qualities of the pure fabrics: A thick puff-paste makes the flowing material become more static and almost 3-dimensional. A wax-like vynil-print on delicate silk creates a subtle oily transparency. To keep the attention on the surface, everything remains pure white. The repetitive prints and the simple shapes of the garments, all derived from a rectangle, add up to a piercing simplicity and give a futuristic character. This minimalistic set of clothes consists of a waistcoat, a dress, a shirt and a sweater.
