SILENCE; LAUGHTER

– a lecture by Amelia Groom

 

 

Drawing from her ongoing work on the politics of silence, Amelia Groom will consider silence and laughter from feminist perspectives, through a reading of the 1982 film "A Question of Silence" by Marleen Gorris.

 

Amelia Groom is an art historian and currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute for Cultural Inquiry in Berlin. Since 2014 she has taught on the Critical Studies MA degree at the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam. She is currently working on a book about Beverly Buchanan's environmental sculpture Marsh Ruins (1981), forthcoming in 2020 with the Afterall Books One Work series.

 

The lecture takes place in the frame of the seminar "Words, Don't Come Easy. Texts in Art" held by Elena Vogman Kunsthochschule Berlin Weißensee
