S.C.A.U.P. | Meng Heng Tien

Background

With a continuous growth of the global population, urban areas are predicted to gradually form into giant self-sufficient metropolises, one of the major issues following is how we generate and distribute high amount of sustainable energy to manage this transformation. It is expected that new electric routes may be planted, older cables will be renewed, and overhead power lines will be replaced underground, the overall installation of underground cables becomes a crucial matter, leading us towards the task of expanding/ upgrading inner-city underground cable infrastructures.

Concept

S.C.A.U.P. is a four-unit heavy equipment set, which is designed to improve the existing manpower-driven procedure of cable pulling. By creating a semi-autonomous system, it could not only adapt to a variety of circumstances, but also coordinate with one another, with the goal of increasing efficiency along this upcoming demand.

With similar motions, devices used in this process could have a closer relation with one another in terms of hardware use, in order to save not only operation time, but also preparation time. With automatic adjustments alongside a more systematic guidance unit, cables in the applicable range is guaranteed to stay within the safety radius, and with module units performing the entirety of the cable pulling act, all positions are able to communicate and coordinate, ultimately forming a highly synchronize motion, which can also pause or slow down at any moment if high pulling tension is detected.
