ANDREA MECACCI (Rome, 1972) is Associate Professor of Aesthetics at the Università degli Studi di Firenze. He has been visiting professor in the United States, Mexico and China. Co-director of “Aisthesis. Pratiche, linguaggi e saperi dell’estetico”, member of the scientific board of “Popular Inquiry. The Journal of Aesthetics of Kitsch, Camp and Mass Culture” and of "Revista latinoamericana de filosofia". His current researches focus on the aestheticization of contemporary world. His studies focus on some conceptual and operational categories of the aestheticization of the contemporary world: pop, postmodern, diffused aesthetics, kitsch, contemporary art, aesthetics of design and fashion design. Among his books: Introduzione a Andy Warhol (2008), L’estetica del pop, (2011), Estetica e design (2012), Il kitsch (2014), Dopo Warhol. Il pop, il postmoderno, l’estetica diffusa (2017), ), Il gusto e il suo doppio. Saggi sul kitsch (2021).

Das internationale Kooperationsprojekt „glass – hand formed matter“ wurde 2020 von der weißensee kunsthochschule berlin initiiert, um das Zukunftspotential der handwerklichen Glasherstellung in Europa auszuloten. Ausstellungen in Berlin, Gotha, Riihimäki (Finnland) und Boda (Schweden) zeigen nun die im Zuge des Projekts entstandenen Glasobjekte und geben faszinierende Einblicke in die Arbeits- und Veränderungsprozesse der Glasherstellung.

Our modes of giving form evolve and hybridize more and more, but they are also inhabited by common and timeless questionings that have to do with our demiurgic tendencies. This lecture series, initiated in 2021 by Patricia Ribault and Jörg Petruschat, will question the processes of formation and transformation of the material world we live in through various concepts: constraint, function and dysfunction, formativity and performativity, visualization and representation, activity, bricology…, all of which constitute the inseparably mental and material set of operations that lead to the genesis of a thing.

seefashion22 - Fashion Festival

At the start of the summer semester, the fashion design department of weißensee kunsthochschule berlin presents the Bachelor and Master graduate collections from 2021-22.
 
This year, seefashion22 will be a fashion festival on the premises of the university in Weißensee. Fashion will be presented in various forms - as a live fashion show, in performances and via fashion film screenings.
On Saturday, 9 April 2022, visitors can follow the temporally and spatially rotating presentations of 24 graduates on the university campus from 7 to 10 pm.
The exhibition "seefashion22 X Platte" offers a preview of the Fashion Festival. The exhibition in the Platte Berlin event platform at Alexanderplatz was conceived with a focus on sustainability and locality. "seefashion22 X Platte" can be visited daily from 1-7 April 2022.
 
Throughout history, fashion has always been a reflection of our times.
It has been a year of changes and upheaval for all of us. This year’s graduate collections look at the challenges we are facing beyond the pandemic. The graduates focused on sustainable materials and up-cycled products. Crafting techniques have experienced a veritable renaissance. The collections question social norms, challenge binary gender identity and offer counter-concepts to socio-cultural clichés. A collective focus is set on rethinking fashion in order to influence a future worth living in.

Lecture series by +dimensions reserach group at the weißensee kunsthochschule berlin SoSe 2022

How are artistic, design, performative and scientific research entangled? At what point is research artistic or shape-giving? And aren't art and design always a form of research?

In the summer semester of 2022, we invite three artists/theorists/designers to reflect on the interconnections between research and aesthetic practice from their different perspectives and to explore different methods and approaches with us.

About +dimensions dialogues

The newly established research project "+dimensions" at the weißensee kunsthochschule berlin explores new teaching formats and learning spaces in art and design, interweaving the analog and the digital. Through interdisciplinary, experimental, and critical research-collaboration we develop new formats and hybrid strategies under an intersectional lens. Every semester the +dimensions team invites all members of the college to a lecture series with a different focus. Since artistic-creative research is at the core of our approach, for the Sommer semester 2022 we invite artists/theorists/researchers/practicioners to reflect on the entanglements of research and aesthetic practice from their distinct perspectives, and to exchange ideas about different methods and approaches. The goal of our ongoing discussions is not only to gain a better understanding of the subject, but also to share multiple, institution-independent views of research in arts and design.

The project is a cooperation between the College of the Marshall Islands, the Ethnological Museum Berlin, the Humboldt Forum and the Weißensee Academy of Art Berlin

Jitdam Kapeel* is about sharing island wisdom. In Marshallese, this proverb roughly translates to seeking knowledge or understanding is key to fostering sustainability and wisdom; start local, think global! With these words we line out the interaction with the artifacts collected in Germany's museums and their knowledge transfer.

Together and with different perspectives and interests, Marshallese and Berlin students present performances, models and installations as a kind of impartial transfer of knowledge from a former German colony and back again. At the same time, artifacts that have long been kept in local collections are being presented to the descendants of those who gave them up for the first time in more than a hundred years.

During the weekend of April 2nd, 3rd and 4th, in the HumboldtForum's Oceanic Boat Hall, directly in front of the Marshallese Canoe, a variety of events will be happening, including a live Broadcast live from the College of the Marshall Islands on Sunday morning at 10:30am (8:30pm Majuro Time)

The world is in the throes of change, and the fashion industry too. This is also reflected in the end-of-course collections of the Department for Fashion Design at the weissensee school of art and design berlin. In the exhibition ‘seefashion22 X Platte’, Platte Berlin (a forum promoting sustainable, ethical and inclusive fashion) is presenting some of the students’ final-year assignments as a precursor to the Fashion Festival and, in so doing, provides a perspective on the topics of sustainability and locality, which are amongst the festival’s key themes. The exhibition runs from 1 to 7 April 2022.

„Die Leipziger Buchmesse wurde kurzfristig zum dritten Mal in Folge abgesagt. Aber wir lassen uns davon nicht abschrecken. Das 2. Studienjahr der Visuellen Kommunikation hat einen Plan B entwickelt.“ (Wim Westerveld, Professor für Typografie im Fachgebiet Visuelle Kommunikation)

Die Leipziger Buchmesse 2022 wurde abgesagt. Das ist nicht nur ein schwerer Schlag für die Buchbranche sondern auch für viele deutsche Kunsthochschulen, die sich traditionell an der Messe mit ihren Büchern beteiligen. Denn die Messe war stets ein wichtiger Ort, um im Rahmen der Hochschule entstandene Bücher der Öffentlichkeit vorzustellen und erste Kontakte zu Verlagen zu knüpfen.

Das 2. Studienjahr der VK hat daher im Fach „räumliches Gestalten“ kurzerhand eine alternative Buchausstellung mit dem Titel „Plan B“ ins Leben gerufen. Frei nach dem Motto „Nähe trotz Distanz“ haben die Studierenden ein flexibles Ausstellungssystem samt Grafik entwickelt, um die Buchprojekte aus weißensee aus den letzten drei Jahren zu präsentieren. Außerdem wurde das Konzept erweitert und auch andere Kunsthochschulen und kleine Verlage wurden zur Beteiligung aufgerufen.

Neben den ausgestellten Büchern sind auch Buchpräsentationen von Teilnehmer_innen der Ausstellung geplant. So gibt z.B. die Masterstudentin Ingrid Wenzel einen Einblick in die Welt der Comedy mit ihrem Buch „Bingrid – Ein Stand-up Special als Graphic Novel“. Und die Studentin Margareta Felicia Stern formatiert in „Gedichte des 21. Jahrhunderts“ sexuelle Belästigungsnachrichten an Frauen auf Instagramm in satirische, experimentelle Lyrik.

Auch andere Deutsche Kunsthochschulen sowie kleinere Verlage stellen sich und ihre Arbeiten vor. So freuen wir uns beispielsweise auf Christoph Liepach und seine Gastbücher vom Verlag "sphere publishers“ aus Leipzig".

Es gelten die aktuellen Hygienebestimmungen.
